DVD duplication is the process of ‘burning’ standard or special shaped DVD-R using a laser in standard DVD writer drive. Unlike replicated discs, DVDs that have gone though the duplication process are recordable discs, whereas replicated DVDs are read-only memory, commonly known as DVD-ROMs and cannot be burned.

Robotic duplicators are often used in the production of duplicated DVDs, these allow for large quantities of various sized DVDs to be processed and is an ideal production method for small print runs,less than 200 discs, or when a quick turnaround is required. After the discs are produced and the required information is written onto them, they are usually applied with a photo-glossy, which is printed using high quality printers during a smudge-proof laser printing process.
