The operating system war is far from over as more and more challengers enter the OS market offering something different to the consumers. Microsoft has remained one of the leading companies in the world when it comes to operating system and they decided to reinvent their mobile OS with Windows Phone 8 which is stylish, different and user friendly. While Windows Phone 8 is still far behind in the OS competition compared to Apple iOS 6.1 and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean but it still manages to attract lot of customers that want something different than iOS and Android.

Better Usability

There is no doubt that Windows Phone 8 gets the same interface as the earlier Windows Phone 7 but Microsoft has made some radical change to the overall software that makes Windows Phone 8 much more powerful than the previous version. The mobile OS uses the same kernel as Windows 8 which also include the similar NTFS file system and the ability to third party developers to write better codes. So far Windows Phone 8 might not have the same amount of Windows Phone 8 only apps but Microsoft is gradually building up the ecosystem that will attract more buyers to it in the future. The OS also backs up the data on the cloud system and the overall usability of the operating system is easy.

Tiles

While iOS and Android makes use of icons, Microsoft has decided to come up with Tiles and Live Tiles that cover the home screen and each tile represents the items that users want to access easily. These tiles are also apps and other widgets that are important to the users like Contacts, Hubs, Media Items and Web Pages. While some of the Tiles are static, there are some tiles that are called Live Tiles as they automatically flip around. The Me tile is constantly flipping around to keep your updated about social networking updates. Similarly, if you have a live tile for FlightAware it would flip when any flight updates come in. These Live Tiles do not consume battery life and therefore it is really good option. These tiles are available in 20 different colors that can be customized and three different sizes. The tiles can be changed and moved to any location as per convenience.

Live Lock Screen

With Windows Phone 8 users can also make use of the lock screen because the Live Tiles are still active. All the apps that are constantly updated can feed data to the lock screen and therefore users can still see live weather updates, travel information and social networking updates on the lock screen.

Hubs

Hubs are usually places where all the user information combines together. There are many hubs on Windows Phone 8 like the People Hub, Games Hub, Music and Video Hub. The photo hub allows users to see their pictures along with all the pictures that their friends have uploaded on the social networking sites. Similarly, on Music and Video hubs users can see their own audio files plus all the YouTube and Vevo content. The new Wallet hub allows users to access their real credit cards, loyalty cards and local deals in one single place.

Emails and Calendar

Microsoft has tried to incorporate better features for those who want to keep their emails and calendar information on their mobile device. The Windows Phone 8 offers excellent email options and therefore using emails with Windows Phone 8 is as simple as anything. Microsoft is also trying to integrate Always On Skype feature that allows users to use Skype and call their contacts directly using Windows Phone 8. The Calendar allows you to stay updated and schedule your work and personal commitments and share it with groups and other people as well.

Smooth Browsing

Windows Phone 8 does fantastic job when it comes to smooth browsing using 4G LTE and 5GHz Wi-Fi networking technologies. Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 10 makes web pages appear instantly and works as smooth as butter. However, the browser is slower than the other browsers in the competition like Safari and Chrome, but it still does a decent job.

Maps

Bing Maps that make use of Nokia map data is not as good as Google Maps but certainly better than Apple Maps in terms of accuracy and utility. Top features like Local Scout helps travelers and globe trotters to find places at unfamiliar places while navigation features offer better road maps and turn by turn voice guided navigation.

Photos

Windows Phone 8 allows users to open Camera app with dedicated camera button even from a locked phone which is a plus factor that is missing in Android and iOS. The camera app is simple, clean and highly customizable like Android.

Microsoft Office

Microsoft Office is a major advantage that Windows Phone 8 offers to the users. With Microsoft Office users can make use of SkyDrive or Office 365 to swap and store documents in the cloud and make sure that they have data available even while they are on the move.

Apps

While Windows Phone 8 lacks the same kind of apps that Android and iOS has in store there are apps for everybody at the Windows App Store. Microsoft is working on some of the top and favorite apps that are popular in Android and iOS to support Windows Phone 8 as well. So Windows Phone 8 definitely offers better app option as well.

Verdict

Windows Phone 8 is certainly way behind in the competition but it does an excellent job to offer something new to the consumers. It offers all the power to the consumers to stay connected and gets timely updates and information in simple ways like using Live Tiles. The biggest advantage of Windows Phone 8 is that it has a solid hardware that can support various technologies in the future. While many would claim that Windows Phone 8 has no future, Microsoft has been gradually turning the tables to attract more buyers and adding more apps to the store to become a strong player in the OS market.

Sony’s Xperia smartphones are their attempt at taking over the entire smartphone market, where close rivals Samsung and Apple already dominate. The company feels like their best chance at taking the market lies in flooding it with their handhelds. They’re even going one step further by offering near-identical phones, with the Xperia ZR and Xperia Z phones being similar in all but age.

The most striking similarity between the two is just how closely the two phones look. Both are giant, rectangular blocks with straight edges on the front interface. From the front they’re identical but on the back it’s a slightly different story. While the Xperia Z has a flat, better-looking straight back, it’s difficult to hold for a prolonged period of time. The Xperia ZR has a slightly less attractive rounded-back, but that’s unimportant as it’s incredibly smooth to hold in your hand.

The two phones are effectively older and younger brothers to each other. For example, the ZR has a smaller design than the Z – 139 x 71 x 7.9 mm (5.47 x 2.80 x 0.31 in) - while the Xperia Z is – 131.3 x 67.3 x 10.5 mm (5.17 x 2.65 x 0.41 in) -hol either phones and it would take a second or two to notice the difference. They also have similar weights (Z -146 g (5.15 oz), ZR - 138 g (4.87 oz)).

Once the designs are done being marvelled over, the insides should be praised too. In terms of processing power, the Sony Xperia Z is packing some serious heat with its Qualcomm MDM9215M/APQ8064 processor, the ZR is slightly less impressive with a Qualcomm Snapdragon APQ8064 powering it – though both have 1.5GHz with 2GB RAM. And while both phones come straight out of the box with the Android OS, v4.1.2 (Jelly Bean) software, arguably the best Android OS available, in the future, the Xperia ZR will be at a huge disadvantage as while its competitor will get a(planned) Android OS v4.2 Jelly Bean upgrade, the ZR will be stuck on v4.1. That being said, both run apps extremely well, crash and lag free, it’s just a case of futureproofing.

But it’s all well and good being fast but how about how those dizzying speeds look? The Z features 1080 x 1920 pixels, 5.0 inches (~441 ppi pixel density) of touchscreen tech, with absolutely magnificent visuals. With a smaller screen on account of its overall size, the ZR still holds its own with a 720 x 1280 pixel, 4.55 inch (~323 ppi pixel density) touchscreen to prod at. Better yet, is that with both phones including a 13.1 megapixel camera (that also includes facial recognition), all photos and videos taken with these phones looks gorgeous too (both film in 1080p HD at 30fps), with no discrepancies between the two.

Important still is how hardwearing both phones are. One example is that the displays on both phones are made of shatterproof and scratch-resistant glass, with dust and waterproof (up to 1 metre and 30 minutes) bodies to boot. It’s unclear whether Sony expect people to be dropping the Xperia Z and Xperia ZR into muddy puddles and/or dropping them off of heights, but clearly that’s what they’re equipped for. The phones are also long-lasting in that they both have plenty of space and long battery lives. Unfortunately the ZR does lag behind in terms of storage as it only has 8GB to work with, but there’s room for a 32GB microSD card. On the other hand, the Z has room for 16GB of music and media with room for a 64GB microSD card, so there’s little chance of you running out of space there. And then with batteries, both are in similar regions (although the Z actually includes a special battery-conserving mode) with a standby life of 520-530 hours.

Here’s a list of Xperia Z and Xperia ZR specs, side by side.

So while the Sony Xperia Z is clearly the better phone on all fronts, the Xperia ZR is a more than worthy rival and when the two finally go toe-to-toe later in June, the ZR will have a much lower price point, albeit with slightly lower specs.

For years it’s been a given that in most office jobs your employer provides the tools you need to complete your work. But according to the latest research from Gartner, this could all be changing.

BYOD – or ‘bring your own device’ - isn’t an entirely new concept. In fact, some companies already require their employees to use their own smart phones, laptops and tablets in the workplace. Gartner’s research has suggested that half of all employees will be required to follow a mandatory BYOD policy by 2017.

Current Situation and Predictions

Some employees actually already choose to use their own devices – particularly when working in the technology industry – as they prefer using devices that the feel more comfortable with. Plus, not all company’s keep their IT department up-to-date with the latest technology. However, a growing number of companies are cutting costs by making BYOD mandatory. The majority of businesses that currently use a BYOD policy are midsize to large enterprises, generating from $500m upwards with 2,500-5,000 employees.

Countries that are most likely to already be using a BYOD policy are Brazil, Russia, China and India; all of which are said to be at similar stages of economic development. Within these countries, the most commonly used personal device is a standard mobile phone. The report said that the United States is more likely to allow BYOD within companies than European countries. It is suggested that this is because of stricter data protection laws in Europe.

Costs and Reimbursement

Currently, around half of all BYOD programs adopted in companies provide partial reimbursement for the cost of buying and using your own device. However, the study suggests that any form of reimbursement will become rare. Gartner’s vice president, David Willis, even said that he believes companies should only subsidize the service plan on a smartphone. This raises the question of how out-of-pocket employees will be and why should they have to fork out for the benefit of the company they work for? We go into this a bit later on. Undoubtedly, there are huge cost benefits to any employer who adopts the BYOD policy – some companies spend millions on keeping their essential everyday technology up-to-date.

Potential Problems

Yes, there are potentially millions of dollars to be saved by allowing employees to bring their own devices to work. But what sacrifices need to be made to enable these cost-cuts? The two main problems that have been raised are security and interoperability. And these aren’t small problems. Security is an important part of any business – you need to protect your assets. You don’t want family and friends of employees easily having access to confidential information, and worse still – what happens if an employee’s laptop or tablet is stolen?

When a company owns their devices and they largely stay on the premises, they are fully in control of the network’s security. As soon as these devices are used both in a personal and business manner, there is a risk to that security. So how is this problem overcome? Not cheaply. Although the IT department may be saving on the devices themselves, they will need to invest more heavily in security. Additionally, procedures and policies will need to be put into place so that employees understand their own responsibilities in regards to the safety risks.

The second problem that has been raised is interoperability. Everyone knows how incompatible Macs and PC’s are at the best of times, which is why most companies tend to pick a favourite and stick to it. With a BYOD policy you don’t have that luxury – you’ll have employees working with all sorts of different devices. And these days there’s more than just Apple and Microsoft to worry about – there are operating systems and software (will everyone have the same editions?) as well as Android becoming a huge market leader. This problem is relatively easily overcome with the use of cloud services. Cloud services work on any platform or device – they simply need an internet connection. So perhaps one positive to come out of BYOD policies is that more money will be invested in improving cloud technology.

Will it Work?

Many questions have been raised over the topic of BYOD, largely around the issues of costs. This sort of arrangement is a dream come true for many companies as they would see a huge drop in IT costs. But for the employees that have to provide their own devices, how out of pocket are they going to be?

Technology changes at such a fast rate that you need a small fortune to keep up with it. So what if an employee can’t afford to buy the latest technology? What if because of this, their work suffers? Does this disadvantage those workers and restrict their potential earning capabilities?

From an employers point of view, if their employees refuse or simply cannot buy the best quality equipment, will the company’s overall output suffer as a result? Only time will tell.

The dust and water resistant Sony Xperia ZR was awaited eagerly all across the world. But it seems that not all nations are going to be lucky. France, Germany and United Kingdom wont’ be getting it soon. Only selected markets ad some online retailers will deliver the phone. Officially unveiled recently, Sony Xperia ZR looks similar to its bigger sibling, the Xperia Z, but comes with a smaller display. The highlight of the technology in this –resistant Android smartphone is clicking photos and Full HD videos underwater.

Let us take a look at the key features offered by the smartphone from Sony.

Looks and Design

Xperia ZR is well crafted and you will be impressed by the sleek and durable design. Being dust-resistant and water-resistant, you can use the smart phone submerged in 1.5 meters for up to 30 minutes. The .6” HD Reality Display is super-sharp and gets its power by Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2. Get a great viewing experience from the exceptionally designed OptiContrast panel. The display measures 4.55-inch and carries 1280 x 720 resolution. The comfortable and solid styling of ZR offers you a choice of fresh colors in pink, black, mint and white.

Hardware and Software

This Android smartphone offers foremost technology that works on Qualcomm Snapdragono quad-core 1.5 GHz processor, along with 4G LTE. These specifications are all in line with Sony Xperia Z and coupled with the water-proof capabilities, sound impressive. Get regular connectivity options like EDGE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB port, NFC etc.

Cameras and battery

Performance and features are very similar to Z Battery STAMINA Mode keeps the juice going in for a longer time. You get 13MP shooter with HDR video performance.

As compared to Xperia Z

You will find both phones very similar, carrying the same S4 Pro processor and 13-Megapixel camera. Both are waterproof and dustproof and NFC and 4G compatible. The main difference lies in the centimetre smaller size of Sony Xperia ZR. It is also 2.5 mm thicker than the Z. Xperia ZR also gets lower in resolution as it gets 720p when compared to 1080p on the Z. Sony Xperia ZR carries a higher resolution camera while Xperia Z enjoyes a faster 4G support.

Rivals in the Market

Sony Xperia ZR faces the following competitors in the market – Sony Xperia SP, Samsung Galaxy S4, Sony Xperia ZL, HTC One, Samsung Galaxy S III and Sony Xperia L.

Sony Xperia ZR has smaller display as compared to Xperia SP, but it is water resistant which SP is not. It is Quad core processor while SP runs on Dual core processor. Samsung Galaxy S4 and Sony Xperia ZL have a bigger display and faster mobile data support as compared to ZR. The main difference is that ZR is water resistant and carries a higher resolution camera as compared to its rivals. Sony Xperia L runs on Quad core processor like Xperia ZR. As for Samsung Galaxy S III, it runs on very fast and Quad core processor like ZR but is not water resistant.

What is common in Sony Xperia ZR and its rivals is lots of RAM, high-resolution display and fast processor.

Pros

Good sized screen

faster data transfer

High resolution screen

lower power consumption

Multiple processor cores

Wifi hotspot

Cons

Sloe wifi

Missing Adobe Flash support

Conclusion

When coming to offering full potential to their customers, Xperia ZR really knows how to push those boundaries. You are in for the best of Sony’s technologies and media applications along with easy one-touch connectivity. Get ready to enjoy a unique smartphone experience form Sony and the best ever yet. The pricing is yet to be announced officially for the slimmer smartphone. The high-end water-proof camera will grab your attention. Go ahead and take underwater pictures and record HD videos without a care for half an hour. The phone is impressive and is sure to win hearts but the pricing and availability too will matter to the consumers. With a strong and competitive pricing, Sony Xperia ZR is sure to crack the marketing code.

The Japanese manufacturer treads slowly but surely to gain already a strong foothold in the market. Already the competitors are gearing up to meet the challenges introduced by Sony in the Smartphone market off and on.

In a world where technology plays an important role it is important that better software prevail in the market. While the smartphone and tablet market is really hot and happening all over the world it is the operating system that takes the center stage and offers tons of features and options that make the entire smartphone and tablet experience better. Apple has been among the leading technology companies that have come up with their iOS operating system that has offered some really great features. While iOS 6 is the last major upgrade that Apple has made to all their mobile devices it is the new iOS 6.1 that brings in new features that enhances the LTE compatibility. Let’s take a quick look at some of the top features and limitations of the new iOS 6.1 in the review below.

Simpler Set Up Process

The update for iOS 6.1 offers simpler set up either over the air or through iTunes depending on the choice of the consumer. The setup options offer Set Up as New, Restore from iCloud Backup and Restore from iTunes Backup. While the first option is clearly for brand new users the second and third option is something that most iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch users will choose to get the new update. After the setup process is complete the iTunes Wi-Fi Sync option syncs all the data wirelessly.

Better Home Screen

While the iOS 6 offered lot of changes to the home screen the new updates offers better display and clarity. The home screen now looks crisp and sharp and that allows users to have better home screen experience when they are using their iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch. The new updates offer better information to the users and also improve the 3D imagery that enhances the overall graphics on the screen.

Improvisation in Siri

Siri is one of the top features that came along with the iOS 6 and that allows users to send messages, place phone calls and schedule appointments. While Siri does lot of things for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad users the update offers better options. With the new iOS 6.1 US based customers can now purchase movie tickets through Fandango using Siri. The voice control software also recognizes various languages like English, French, German, Japanese, Korean and Spanish and many more.

Battery Life

The new update provided by Apple also works well on various iPhone 5 and it resolves the battery issues that many iPhone 5 users were experiencing for long time. Some of the iPhone 5 users that have experience battery issues with the phone said that they saw better performance from the battery after the updated to iOS 6.1 and that indicates that Apple has been trying to cut down the battery issues. In some of the previous updates the Exchange Calendar bug consumed lot of battery power and that was one of the biggest concerns for many users. Finally, Apple has managed to resolve the battery problems that would keep the iPhone 5 users happy.

LTE Support

While the new iPhone 5 offers LTE compatibility there are many carriers that were still unable to offer their support to the new iPhone 5. With the new iOS 6.1 Apple has decided to work on this issue and therefore the new update actually offers users to get better LTE support for more carriers internationally. This was also one of the marketing options that Apple has tried to come up with to make iPhone 5 internationally available and usable.

iTunes Match Options

Apple has also been looking forward to various important issues that were never resolved earlier and therefore the new iOS 6.1 update offers subscribers to download individual songs from iCloud rather than downloading the entire album. This was one of the basic features that was missing earlier and Apple has decided to incorporate this in the new update.

Faster Downloads

Apple has incorporated better features to the iOS 6.1 which allows users to enjoy the downloading experience. Apple claims that the new update definitely offers better download speeds to the users that prefer downloading music and apps on their new Apple devices. However, the limitation to this is that the upgrade is available to certain hardware releases and therefore not all Apple devices enjoy the new iOS 6.1 upgrade features.

Verdict

When compared with other operating systems like Android, iOS 6.1 still remains simpler and easy to use and the best multimedia operating system that also offers various accessory support. It also has the largest and best app store that offers high quality apps compared to Android apps that do not offer the same kind of quality apps all the time. However, iOS 6.1 does not offer the same kind of freedom to tweak apps and operating system that works against the popularity of the OS but it still remains in the competition.

General Motors is definitely thinking big in terms of offering better driving experience to the customers. Hence, the automaker has now made an announcement of the new state of the art $130 million Enterprise Data Center that will be the best in the world and will allow GM to expand their global operations with ease and better options. General Motors said that IT operations are really important today because they form the backbone of the global operations that they have and therefore they have invested in the new Enterprise Data Center. GM also revealed that the new data center will house GM’s global IT infrastructure and consolidate multiple sites that General Motors already have.

So, how will the new Enterprise Data Center offer better options to GM?

According to General Motors the company spends lot of money on physical crash test that can now be avoided because the new Enterprise Data Center will handle the crash test simulations that will be enabled by super-computing generate data. The auto company said that they will apply and analyze the data that they have received and use in vehicle design and development to make sure that they offer better safety technologies to their vehicles. The new data center will help them to save around $350,000 each year since they do not have to depend on physical crash test any more.

It will also offer Global Product Development options to GM which means that the company will be able to focus on demands and supply of various critical parts through the information provided by suppliers and distributors. Hence, the company can also save lot of money that they would otherwise spend on overall engineering expenses.

The new Enterprise Data Center will also allow the company to track the sales data and therefore GM can take better decisions in terms of sales and marketing to promote the right kind of cars in the right market where the demand is high. This will allow them to analyze why certain markets are high and low and they can bring out better options that can turn their low sales volumes and offer better options to the customers.

Unlike Apple’s iOS software, that currently only runs on the company’s line of iPod Touches and iPhones, Android is a far more open software. Because the software is open source, since Google released the code under the Apache License, it can be found everywhere from the biggest of phones to the tiniest of smartwatches. Android software is all around us and it can be found on some pretty remarkable gadgets.

1. Samsung Galaxy Camera

As a camera that comes complete with a touchscreen to allow users to prod away at in order to do their photographic bidding, the Samsung Galaxy Camera would need to employ highly responsive software to keep it running fast. That’s why Samsung released their photography marvel with Android’s Jelly Bean (v4.1) OS, keeping operations smooth and allowing apps to be downloaded from the Google Play marketplace.

2. Sony Smartwatch

One of the most successful and unique Android powered gadgets on the market, Sony’s smartwatch allows users to work with other Android devices and even download apps. It works with a variety of Android phones and can download apps from Google Play too. Imagine the high speeds of the latest Android OS compressed down into a tiny device not even as big as the palm of your hand, that’s the smartwatch.

3. Google TV

Before smartwatches, smart TVs were taking over, with everyone wanting a connected TV. While popularity has certainly dropped off, they are still on sale, and so they require the best running power out there. That’s why in most Google smart TVs, there is some form of Android OS, making sure that when it comes to connectivity, no one is left quite literally lagging behind.

4. Google Glass

Google’s high-tech eyewear has voice control, video recording and apps. The operating system behind it all? You guessed it, Android. Google Glass is a brand new tech wonder on its own and should its 2014 release be classed as successful, this could be the most astonishing Android-powered gadget on this entire list.

5. Android @ Home

Light bulbs, power sockets and thermostats – do they seem like unlikely suspects to be powered by Android? Think again. In 2011, Google launched ‘Android @ Home’, which allowed users to control those listed things via Android devices. Prototypes of the Android @ Home light bulbs were able to be switched on and off using an Android phone or tablet, making it incredibly easy to control the lights when the physical switch seemed too far away.

6. OUYA Games Console

The PS3 has some seriously fancy cell-power and Microsoft’s Xbox 360 is something rather special too, but now there’s a console to rival them both. The OUYA, the games console that runs on Android. Funded via Kickstarter, the console is a much cheaper (it retails at $99) alternative to the popular Sony and Microsoft boxes that runs some of the most popular games, such as Final Fantasy III.

7. Android Headphones

Probably the most unlikely suspect on this list are these Android headphones. Released all the way back in 201, the Admiral Touch headphones include both a touchscreen and the Android OS. Considered rather impractical as the touchscreen is on one of the actual speakers, the Admiral allows users to adjust the volume via the touchscreen. It also includes Wi-Fi, Pandora streaming and Skype compatibility.

8. In Car Stereos

If a smartphone is the very first place you’d expect to see Android OS, then an in-car stereo is arguably the last. With plenty of in-car stereos and phones being compatible via Bluetooth, manufacturers are ramping that up with devices that not only let you access the music on your phone, but allow you to download apps such as Google Maps and RoadTrip.

9. Android Notebooks

Laptops probably seem a likely contender for running Android but you’d be surprised at just how much a laptop has to work. In fact, laptops and netbooks have actually yet to run Android’s operating system. Samsung are reportedly going to be the first to release an Android notebook, on v5.0 and while we don’t yet know how it will stand up to Microsoft’s Windows and Apple’s Mac OS, it could potentially be the fastest PC yet.

10. Android Landlines

Android on the go, Android at home too. There are Android powered landlines now, touchscreen and all. Offering calls without a mobile phone and maintaining the ability to play music, use Google contacts and video chat, it could be used as a media hub for your household.

Metro: Last Light released in North America today. Along with it came a pretty awesome looking launch trailer.

The game Metro: Last Light is the sequel to Metro 2033. It takes place during the fourth decade of the 21st century in the not-terribly-original environment of a post-apocalyptic Planet Earth. But that repetition of a common theme shouldn’t dissuade the casual or even the hardcore gaming enthusiast. This installment carries some original concepts which are sure to impress those hungry for a sci-fi adventure.

For starters, the game takes place, as the name implies, in tunnels of the Metro. Humanity has resorted to living in train tunnels as opposed to facing the horrors of the outside world. It’s a plausible post-apocalyptic scenario, actually.

Although the game employs the ubiquitous and overused sci-fi game theme of mutants, it does so with original elements as well. In this case, players will have to fight those mutants with certain exotic hand-made weapons. This is a nice touch for a game that would otherwise be a repetition of the tedium of a first-person shooter.

The main character, named Artyom, not only finds himself battling mutants, but battling other humans as well. In this troubled world, humans are pitted against each other, rather than united against the mutants as a common foe. Worse yet, warring factions are seeking a military doomsday device which threatens to wipe out what little of the human race is left.

Have a look at the trailer below. It’s a well made, interest-piquing glimpse inside the action and environment of Metro:Last Light.

So what if you’re no techie? If you have a business, it’s a big mistake for you to neglect online marketing. Even brick and mortar businesses need a decent reputation online, especially with potential customers using search engines to look for information. There is simply no excuse for you to fail, what with the many Android apps that can help you succeed in online marketing – even if you’re a business greenhorn.

Let’s face it: For your business to be a big hit, you need to be more visible online. But until your business becomes the stuff that memes are made of, you need trusty Android apps on your side.

6 Android Apps To Grow Your Business Online

You don’t want clients going for some other brand just because their name is more searchable online, do you? Stop losing customers! Use these 6 essential Android apps to ensure the success of your business via online marketing.

1. Hootsuite Lite

If you want to update your status on your Facebook profile, official Facebook page, Twitter, Foursquare, and LinkedIn accounts with just one Android app, Hootsuite Lite is the gold standard. Imagine having to type a post just once and being able to publish it on all your social networks at the same time! Even better, you can schedule posts ahead of time – that’s round-the-clock social media management for you even as you sleep.

2. Facebook Pages Manager

Other websites forget to include this in their list of top Android apps for online marketing – and to me, that’s a big oversight. After all, having a Facebook page (which is not the same thing as a Facebook profile, mind you) is arguably the most basic tenet of social networking. With internet access available almost anywhere, you can’t neglect your company’s Facebook page! Online presence, especially on top social networks such as Facebook, gives credence to your business.

3. Google Plus

This Android app is for online marketing gurus who know the value of SEO. While Facebook is basic, Google+ goes one step higher and provides extra points in the search engine department. Make sure your business has a Google+ profile and a Google business page – only those way ahead of the pack (like me!) usually do.

4. Instagram

Not having an Instagram app is a “mortal sin in marketing”. With online readers being very visual, photos are the most effective way to engage your target market – and as you know, Instagram is all about the photos.

5. Ad-ology Marketing Forecast

Whether you’re a pro or a newbie at online marketing, you will need an app that gets you inspired whenever you hit a brick wall. This ad gives you tips and news on consumerism, branding, and digital advertising to get the ball rolling.

6. Meme Generator

You want your online marketing campaigns to go trending. Online marketing is all about unique ideas that have the potential to go viral – and that is exactly what the Meme Generator can do! Choose an epic face with an equally-epic facial expression, type in a catchy sentence that goes with it (especially one that promotes your business), and voila! Watch as your meme gets picked up by people with a sense of humor… and enjoy as the number of your followers start to skyrocket.

Speaking of memes and Android apps for online marketing, do you think the following memes are offensive or just outright funny?

Make sure you’re a techie entrepreneur by installing these 6 essential Android apps for your online marketing success! As these are all free, you don’t even have to dish out a single cent for these apps. Oh, and if you can’t help but share the above memes, go ahead – I don’t blame you for having a sense of humor. Most Android users do.

Called the ‘Asha 501’, this brand new extremely low budget smartphone is aiming to take on the entire low-end smartphone market. With Apple rumoured to be preparing a low-end version of the iPhone 5, reportedly set to launch later this year, the Asha 501 is a direct rival to Apple’s attempt at a market takeover.

Priced at just £65, that measly cost actually covers a lot. It may only be 99.2 x 58 x 12.1 mm and 91 grams, but what Nokia are saying is that a phone with “high-end design and quality” that’s “accessible to more people” comes packed with elements from Nokia’s previously seen MeeGo operating system, which is certainly no Android or Windows 8, but it does the job nicely.

On the front of the phone is a a 3 inch touchscreen (320 x 240 pixels), while the back of the phone features a 3.2 megapixel camera, that doesn’t have flash. All of this is encased in a beautiful array of colours including Bright Red, Bright Green, Cyan, Yellow, White and BlackForty (the BlackForty includes €75 worth of EA Games downloadable for free from Nokia Store).

But it’s not the operating system or the extensive range of colours that is the Asha 501’s selling point, it’s its battery. Boasting a whopping 48 days of standby power, the 501’s1200 mAh battery also allows for 17 hours of call time and 56 hours of music playback.

However it’s little surprise that the Asha 501’s battery can last so long when the phone offers no 3G or 4G capability, only 2G connectivity is on offer. What does risk running down the battery though, is that some models of the Asha 501 allow for two sim cards. There’s also the phone’s Wi-Fi which can be used to download a healthy amount of apps such as the Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter. These can then be stored on its 4GB of memory (with room for a 32GB memory card).

Whether this budget phone is worth every penny or not will be seen in June 2013, when the Asha 501 is released.
