As usual, this year’s top titles are available across multiple platforms, but if you’re a specific genre type of player and looking for something new to play in the summer and into the fall, we’ve compiled a list of the best first person shooter games coming out this year. So grab your controllers and don’t miss out on these awesome releases.
Call of Duty Black Ops 2– Due in November and released across all platforms, this is the ninth game in the franchise and a much-anticipated first-person shooter release as well. A Trent Reznor theme song, intriguing new setting and a writing credit from one of the masterminds behind the “The Dark Knight Rises” are just some of the things that will make this game kick-ass.
Aliens: Colonial Marines – The franchise has been a bit hit-and-miss since the 2010 release, but this edition, which is set after the events of the third film, puts players in control of a group of marines with access to flamethrowers, shotguns, RPGs, even welding torches, and it evokes exactly the same eerie suspense that made James Cameron’s movies so insanely successful.
Far Cry 3 – Tropical mayhem, sadistic island crews and a tooth-and-nail fight for survival are just some of the things to look forward to in this latest edition of Far Cry. Taking place on islands in the Indian and Pacific Oceans, the game’s main protagonist is Jason Brody, a tourist stranded on a chain with his girlfriend, who mysteriously goes missing. Stealth takedown combinations, a sandbox editor and a feature that allows players to take pictures with Brody’s camera are just some updated elements.
Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn – Many first person shooter fans will have a special place in their hearts for Halo and the 2012 edition is tipped to be a doozy. The first of the Reclaimer Trilogy developed by 343 Industries, Halo 4 opens four years after its predecessor and sees the return of familiar faces like Master Chief and Al Cortana.
Are you ready for an ear-shattering summer packed with fantastic first person shooter games? Get these games for PS3 or Xbox and enjoy a bit of single or multiplayer shoot ‘em up.
